Inclusive, peaceful and green families, groups, communities, and local governments that promote climate adaptation, natural resources management and equality for youth, women, and refugees, including those with disabilities.
Discriminatory social norms and practices and policies curtail the ability of vulnerable groups to live dignified lives. Denied recognition as human beings, rights to equal opportunities, access to and control over critical resources needed to thrive, and representation in policy spaces, youth, women and refugees, including those with disabilities, become constrained from exploring their full potential “to be or do.” Hardly can they choose and benefit from information, skills, and opportunities, even when available. This inequality in turn leads to lower life outcomes for youth, women and refugees (and worse for those with disabilities). They suffer more from malnutrition; have low parity in access to education, health and extension services. Hardly do they have a voice to determine how public resources are allocated and used. Yet opening equal opportunity spaces for these marginalised groups is good economics. AFARD will create awareness among the discriminated groups (rights holders) and their oppressors and accomplices (duty bearers) on the rights to equal development and dignity. Alliances will be built with like-minded institutions, powerholders, and role models for sustained socio-political transformation. Platforms will be provided so that both rights holders and duty bearers can dialogue peacefully and respectfully, for positive change. Meanwhile environment conservation will be achieved through sustainable intensification of crops, livestock and trees. Customised community multi-channel awareness drives will be used to increase community-centred control of high-risk activities while increasing tree growing, firewood conservation and improving construction technologies.
