The West Nile region has an estimated 4 million people and is the second poorest region in Uganda. With both refugees and host communities facing livelihood insecurity, in the last 5-years, HORIZONT3000 in partnership
with AFARD and PC (in consortium) have been implementing this project (named Migration I and II) in Yumbe and Arua districts with funding from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), BSIN and Caritas Kärnten. The project aimed to secure livelihoods of refugees and host communities so as to contribute to sustainable development within Rhino camp and Bidibidi resettlement areas in West Nile Region Uganda.
This project represents the final consolidation phase of an endeavor to support 750 South Sudanese refugees and host communities in north Uganda in their effort for a secure livelihood. Its specific objectives: a) Increased access for women in all their diversity to financial services and products, and productive resources b) Women in all their diversity have improved access to entrepreneurship opportunities, including social entrepreneurship, alternative livelihoods and strengthened participation in the green and circular economy c) Reduction in gender disparities in enrolment, progression and retention at all levels of education and lifelong learning for women, men, girls and boys
