With funding from the Sall Family Foundation, AFARD in partnership with West Nile Holdings Ltd (WNH ) are piloting a nature-based agribusiness solution approach within Nebbi municipal council, Nebbi district, Uganda on
Got Ajei to regenerate the 102 acres of degraded hill and conserve the environment and biodiversity while sustainably generating decent incomes and ensuring short term alternative livelihoods building support (by AFARD) and community business partnership (by WNH). This is because in the last 10 years, Nebbi district experienced the worst form of climate change that pushed smallholder farmers to tree cutting for trade in firewood and charcoal, sand mining and stone quarrying that has substantially degraded wetlands and hills. The district forest cover has reduced to a dismal 3.3% from a high 29%. The project goal is “Communities in Nebbi district are resilient to climate change shocks” and the objective is, “152 targeted households in Got Ajei, Nebbi district have nature-based agribusiness for their food, nutrition and income security and their climate resilient approach is replicated by 2025.”
