The West Nile region hosts 54% of the total refugee population in Uganda. Yet both refugees and nationals suffer livelihood insecurity that is a trigger for children to move to the streets. To respond to this need,
Caritas Switzerland in partnership with AFARD and IUCN initiated Street Children Prevention through Sustainable Livelihood Project (PSGP) that is built on the graduation approach using a multi-sectoral intervention focus on child protection, livelihoods and sustainable natural resource management in order to reduce household poverty and strengthen their resilience. The project targets 450 households (70% host and 30% refugee) to directly benefit 3,150 refugees and nationals (900 child, 1,350 youth and 900 adults) in Kululu sub county, Yumbe district.
Through training of 28 community paralegals on child protection and Gender Based Violence (GBV), community sensitization has triggered concerns and case management for the high cases of child abuse and domestic violence in villages like Limu and Uniganga.
